BSB Engineering Services is bringing together fire damper expertise and construction experience for a live technical webinar examining how fire strategy, application and evidence should inform the selection of insulated and non-insulated fire dampers.

Taking place on Thursday 22 October 2026, Damper Specification Selection: Insulated or Non-Insulated – and Why It Matters will explore a question increasingly relevant to consultants, specifiers and building services professionals: does selecting a higher fire resistance classification automatically result in a more appropriate solution?

Led by BSB Commercial Director Nygel Humphrey, the webinar will examine the distinction between E, ES, EI and EIS classifications, when insulation performance may be relevant, and why the requirements of the fire strategy and application should be considered before product selection.

The session will also consider how supporting construction, test evidence and installation requirements can influence specification, as well as the potential consequences of over-specification for coordination, installation, programme and project cost.

Nygel Humphrey commented:

“Specification should start with understanding what the fire strategy requires the damper to do at that particular location. A higher classification does not automatically mean a more appropriate specification.

“Through the webinar, we want to explore some of the questions we regularly encounter and help project teams better understand the relationship between classification, application and the supporting evidence.”

BSB will also be joined by a special guests from the construction industry, bringing a project and delivery perspective to the discussion. Further details will be announced shortly.

Importantly, the session will not simply be a presentation. Attendees are being encouraged to submit their own specification questions and challenges, which will help inform the live discussion and Q&A.

Damper Specification Selection: Insulated or Non-Insulated – and Why It Matters takes place live on Thursday 22 October 2026.
